Our Story

Built on the Water,
Run by People Who Know It

Wavemere was founded by a small group of maritime professionals who felt the west coast of Malaysia deserved tours that took the sea seriously — not just as scenery, but as the main event.

Who We Are

Wavemere: A Maritime Company Rooted in the Strait

Wavemere was established in Putrajaya in 2018 by a team that had spent years working in commercial maritime operations, coastal conservation, and hospitality. We watched the Selangor coast receive little attention from the tourism industry — despite holding fishing villages, tidal sandbars, and a lighthouse that has guided vessels since the Portuguese era.

Our first vessel carried eight guests from Port Klang to Pulau Ketam and back. Nothing more. No theatrical commentary, no forced entertainment. Just the crossing, the village, the water, and a decent lunch. That approach turned into word of mouth, which turned into a second season, and then a second vessel.

Today we operate three tour programmes and take private charters for groups who value quietness over spectacle. Our crew includes certified marine officers, a coastal naturalist who has studied the Selangor mangroves for eleven years, and a cook who trained in Klang before spending time in Penang kitchens.

Our Mission

To offer yacht tours along Malaysia's west coast that are well-considered, professionally run, and worth the day taken for them. Nothing we do should feel careless or interchangeable.

Our Vision

A future where the Selangor coastline and Strait of Malacca are recognised destinations for thoughtful maritime tourism — not just transit routes or cargo channels.

Our Values

Honesty about what each tour offers. Respect for guests' time. Responsible conduct on the water. Regional cuisine presented with care. Transparency in pricing.

The Crew

People Behind the Helm

ZA

Zainal Abidin

Co-Founder & Captain

Twenty-two years in commercial shipping and coastal passenger operations before founding Wavemere. Holds a Master Mariner certificate and knows the west coast shipping lanes as well as any active pilot in the port.

LH

Lim Huey Shan

Co-Founder & Operations Director

Background in hospitality management and coastal tourism planning. Responsible for tour design, guest experience, and the food programme. Her work ensured meals are as much a part of the tour as the sailing.

RS

Ravi Subramaniam

Coastal Naturalist & First Officer

Eleven years studying the Selangor mangrove ecosystem and coastal bird populations. Ravi handles on-board nature interpretation, safety procedures, and second navigation duties on overnight passages.

Standards & Protocols

How We Operate on the Water

Professional maritime operations are built on procedure. Here is how Wavemere approaches safety, certification, and environmental responsibility.

Marine Department Malaysia Certification

All vessels hold current passenger vessel licences issued by the Marine Department Malaysia (Jabatan Laut Malaysia). Certificates are renewed annually and available for inspection upon request.

Safety Equipment & Inspection

Life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are maintained to MMEA standards. Equipment is inspected before every departure. Crew hold valid first-aid and sea-survival certifications.

Weather Assessment Protocol

Departures are approved against MMEA weather bulletins and real-time sea state observation. The captain holds final authority. Tours are rescheduled without penalty when conditions are assessed as unsuitable.

Environmental Conduct

No waste is discharged overboard. Anchoring near coral formations or mangrove root systems is avoided. Guest briefings include coastal ecosystem guidelines. We partner with the Selangor Maritime Heritage Fund annually.

Guest Privacy & Data Handling

Personal details collected during booking are used solely for operational and communication purposes. Guest data is not shared with third parties. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy.

Vessel Maintenance Schedule

Each vessel undergoes a full engineering inspection every six months at an accredited marine workshop. Engine hours, hull condition, and safety systems are logged and reported to the Marine Department on schedule.

Our Expertise

A Working Knowledge of Malaysia's West Coast Waters

The Strait of Malacca carries more freight tonnage per year than any other waterway in the world. This fact, familiar to shipping professionals and geographers, is almost entirely invisible to the people who live alongside it in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Putrajaya. Wavemere operates in the space between those two realities — offering journeys that make the maritime character of the Malaysian west coast tangible and personally meaningful.

Our operations are based in Putrajaya and depart from Port Klang — the busiest container port in Malaysia and one of the fifteen largest in the world. Most visitors pass through it in transit. We use it as the starting point for careful, unhurried tours that move south along the Selangor coastline toward Cape Rachado and Port Dickson, or turn outward toward the tidal communities of Pulau Ketam and the fishing grounds to the north.

Understanding tidal patterns, sea state, seasonal variation in the strait, and the ecological character of the mangrove systems that line the coast requires time and observation. Our crew brings both. Tours are not scripted performances; they are guided passages led by people who spend their working lives on this water and find it genuinely interesting.

Wavemere's approach to yacht tours reflects the character of the Selangor coast itself: measured, layered, and more interesting the closer attention you pay to it.
